ORCID-CA is sustained through institutional membership. We support all types of Canadian institutions and organizations promoting ORCID among scholars and integrating ORCID into local software systems, though only public and non-profit organizations can join ORCID-CA. Member institutions include universities, government departments and agencies, research centres and networks, not-for-profit publishers, research funders, and more! Within institutions, different stakeholders often lead and facilitate member initiatives regarding distinct systems, from libraries to research offices, IT to HR.
Membership Fees
ORCID-CA currently has 54 members, which means the ORCID License Fee is at the 35–60-member tier. The License Year is from May 1 to April 30.
ORCID's License Fee grants access to five sets of Premium Member API credentials, premium member API functionality (e.g., webhooks), monthly reports, and more. Joining ORCID-CA substantially reduces the cost of joining ORCID directly.
ORCID has implemented equity-based fee tiers according to organization size, rising by up to 3%/year. For 2024-2025, the fee tiers are the following:
Small Tier Total Annual Budget (below $10M USD) | $1,905 USD |
Standard Tier Total Annual Budget (between $10M and 1B USD) | $3,810 USD |
Large Tier Total Annual Budget (above $1B USD) | $5,150 USD |
The ORCID-CA Member Support Fee is the operational program cost for running ORCID-CA divided by all ORCID-CA members. In 2024-2025, this cost is roughly $3,500 CAD per year. Since 2021, this cost has been paid in full by the Digital Research Alliance of Canada.
ORCID-CA’s Member Support Fee provides members with the direct bilingual support, resources, and engagement of ORCID-CA staff at CRKN, as well as the ORCID-CA Community of Practice (e.g., ORCID-CA Slack, Member Materials Google Drive, members-only webinars, and community calls).
