As part of our commitment to making evidence-based licensing decisions and developing data-driven strategies for our content licensing program, CRKN has prepared a Multi-Publisher Publication Data Report (2018-2020) which can be downloaded below (login required).
CRKN has collected data from eleven publishers with whom CRKN has a license agreement on the publication output in scholarly journals of authors affiliated to CRKN member institutions. We have identified key data points that provide important insights into publishing trends by members and our intention is to present the same data points, where available, across all publishers. While the data presented in the report has been formatted to be comparable, we would like to emphasize that the data is presented as it was reported by each publisher and has not been verified.
Our goal is that CRKN members will be able to view their individual institutional publication output directly to help inform their renewal decisions and strategies around publications and open access. DOIs have been included for all publishers, which should facilitate comparison with institutional datasets and databases such as CrossRef, OpenAlex, Scopus, and Web of Science . Additionally, several publishers have provided actual APC spend data, which is often not readily available. CRKN will also be using this data at the national level to inform our negotiation strategy and advance our goal of transforming scholarly communication.
Currently, the report covers the 2018-2020 period, at a minimum. Several publishers have provided additional data, including additional years and data for non-participants. CRKN intends to request the data for the 2021 publication year as well and expand this report once the data is available from publishers.
If you have any questions about this report or the data it contains, or to flag any issues, please feel free to contact the Licensing Team at analytics@crkn.ca.
