The CRKN Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Capilano University will become the first Associate Member of CRKN. By becoming an Associate Member, Capilano University will have the opportunity to take part in CRKN’s commercial content licensing program to enrich scholarship and resources for students, faculty, and researchers. In addition, Capilano University will participate in knowledge sharing and other CRKN projects and initiatives to expand research capacity on campus.
Capilano University is a teaching-focused university based in North Vancouver, with programming serving the Sunshine Coast and the Sea-to-Sky corridor. The University enrols more than 10,000 students each year and offers 95 programs, including bachelor's degrees in areas as diverse as film, jazz, early childhood education and tourism management. “Having a diverse range of library resources is vital for the whole CapU community,” says Debbie Schachter, University Librarian for Capilano University. “Becoming a CRKN Associate Member extends Capilano University’s resources, giving our students a stronger academic foundation and supports institutional research activities.”
Associate membership ensures that institutions that are not members of Universities Canada can benefit from CRKN’s content licensing and heritage activities. This allows for increased knowledge sharing among Canadian academic, library, and heritage institutions and a greater diversity of voices and perspectives within CRKN’s membership.
“I am very pleased to welcome Capilano University as our first Associate Member,” commented Clare Appavoo, Executive Director of CRKN. “Associate membership allows CRKN to extend access to knowledge to a broader community. I look forward to supporting Capilano as they enhance their research infrastructure, and I welcome their perspective within the CRKN community.”
