Begun in 2013, Héritage was a 10-year initiative to digitize the most significant Canadian archival fonds previously available only in micro-formats, and to endow these materials with carefully compiled, robust metadata. Héritage includes 900 collections comprising 41 million pages of archival records, the majority of which are handwritten and date from the 17th to mid-20th centuries. The collection was created with funding from CRKN and the collaboration of Library and Archives Canada and was informed by an academic advisory group.
Additions to the collection are ongoing, with approximately 100,000 pages added annually.
