Set within a context of reconciliation efforts, this presentation will discuss colonial frameworks within the GLAM professions and explore the impact of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada on Canadian archival practices. The presentation will draw on the work of the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre as an example of Indigenous community centered access and preservation practices. It will challenge participants to think about what should be preserved, how description and digitization impacts Indigenous communities, and the place of Indigenous intellectual property rights in the GLAM professions.
