Keynote - Taking Stock: Read-and-Publish Agreements and the Future of Open Access
Over the past few years, the CRKN member community has actively pursued read-and-publish agreements with commercial publishers, society publishers, and university presses as an important pathway to open access. This pathway to OA meets authors where they are often already publishing, leading to a high volume of unlocked articles, but a relative status quo in terms of the publishing ecosystem. As CRKN and our members assess the impact and viability of this OA model and look to build a more sustainable scholarly ecosystem for the future, we are pleased to present this keynote session. Featuring two speakers from other library consortia who have grappled with similar questions, our keynote session will provide perspectives on the relative success of read-and-publish agreements, on the transition to OA in the speakers’ local jurisdictions (California and Sweden), while sharing a vision of what is to come for their consortium’s efforts to transition to full and sustainable open access.
