Philippe Michon holds a B.A. in Historical Science and Heritage Studies from Laval University and an M.A. in History with a computer science profile from the University of Sherbrooke. Philippe joined the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) in 2018 as a Semantic Web Analyst. He is interested in cultural heritage data modeling; his research focuses on the use of Linked Open Data to aggregate historical information,and on how to efficiently document and modelise semantic patterns. He is also a member of the Linked.Art Editorial Board and of the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model Special Interest Group (CRM SIG)

This presentation will explore CHIN’s approach to document linguistic and cultural specificity through three attributes appended to vocabulary data in addition to language tags: a reference culture, a conceptual framework, and an example. It will focus on how each of these can either be documented by a provider or derived by the aggregator based on the data structure from which the value is extracted (language; provider domain of expertise and database field; record).
