The Content Strategy Committee met via teleconference on January 25, 2017. The CSC discussed 2017 license renewals and various other projects.
Attendees: Todd Mundle, Gabrielle Prefontaine, Stéphanie Gagnon, Tanja Harrison, Pamela Jacobs, Denise Koufogiannakis, Lisa Petrachenko, Jennifer Richard, and Harriet Rykse.
Management Report
A written report was shared with the committee. Highlights included an update on the Canadian Scholarly Publishing Working Group, which recently published its interim report. Updates were also provided on the CRKN newsletter, the foreign exchange service, staffing changes and the CRKN website.
SCOAP³ Update
An update on the SCOAP³ project was shared with the committee. It has been renewed for Phase II (2017-2019).
ORCID Canada Consortium Update
A progress update on the ORCID Canada Consortium was shared with the committee. CRKN is part of a national implementation group undertaking a consortial approach. The Implementation Group has agreed that CRKN will take the lead on the license development. The goal for launch of ORCID CA has been revised for late March 2017.
Journal Usage Project
K. Silk shared an update on the Journal Usage Project with the committee. The total number of schools participating in the project is 28. The committee discussed communication related to the survey.
ICOLC CC-Plus Grant Proposal
In September 2016, a group of ICOLC members including CRKN collaborated to submit a preliminary proposal for an IMLS National Leadership Planning Grant. The project, named Consortia Collaborating on a Platform for Library Usage Statistics (CC-PLUS), will be adapted from Jisc’s Journal Usage Statistics Portal (JUSP) codebase. In December 2016 the group received an invitation from IMLS to submit a full proposal, which was submitted on January 12, 2017. IMLS is expected to announce grant recipients in April 2017.
Serials Management Sub-Committee – Recruitment & Update
An update on the Serials Management Sub-Committee was shared with the committee. No nominations were received to fill the vacant spot on the sub-committee; therefore, the CSC decided to extend the call for nominations.

2016-2017 License renewals
The committee reviewed a proposal for the following license renewals and discussed possible negotiation objectives:
- Alexander Street Press Classical Music in Video and Classical Scores
- Alexander Street Press Theatre-in-video
- ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Globe and Mail (1844)
- ProQuest Periodicals Archive Online
2017 License Renewals – Phase I Teleconferences
The teleconference schedule was shared with the CSC. CSC members were encouraged to attend sessions to assist in responding to feedback and questions from members.
2017 License Renewals – Phase II Surveys
The survey schedule and a sample survey were shared with committee members. The committee decided to limit the survey to one response per member institution. The committee approved the proposed survey deployment.
License Transition Task Group
The Board-approved Terms of Reference were shared with the committee. CRKN staff will transmit a call for candidates amongst the membership.
