The ORCID-CA Governing Committee is delighted to share that the ORCID-CA program has received funding from NDRIO (via Portage) that will cover the ORCID-CA Member Support Fee for the 2021-2022 license year.
ORCID-CA membership fees are comprised of two elements totalling roughly CAD 8,500:
- The ORCID License Fee: USD 3,500 per member per year
- The ORCID-CA Member Support Fee: the program cost to run ORCID-CA divided among all members.
Funds from NDRIO will be applied to cover the ORCID-CA Member Support Fee in full for 2021-2022. This means that all ORCID-CA members will see their invoice roughly halved from CAD 8,500 to approximately CAD 4,400, pre-tax, depending on the final exchange rate. Although this funding is currently only confirmed for 2021-2022 license year, ORCID-CA will continue to work to secure funding in future years to maximize participation in the consortium.
“We recognize that membership fees can be a significant barrier to joining the ORCID-CA consortium and implementing ORCID institutionally,” commented Mike Nason, Chair, ORCID-CA Governing Committee, and Scholarly Communications and Publishing Librarian, UNB. “This funding will allow current members of ORCID-CA to benefit from substantial savings and reduce costs for any new members that join the consortium this year. I look forward to seeing how lower barriers to entry might improve uptake and commitment to ORCID in particular, and improve engagement in open scholarly infrastructure in general.”
Canadian institutions interested in implementing ORCID and joining ORCID-CA are encouraged to visit the CRKN website to learn more about the benefits of joining the ORCID-CA Consortium, including dedicated bilingual support, premium Member API credentials, Canadian-specific resources, and more.
All new members will also benefit from this reduced membership fee.
