Aleha McCauley, University of British Columbia, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre’s Community Engagement Librarian. Aleha (she/her) has been a librarian at UBC since 2008 and joined as UBC’s Community Scholars Librarian in 2020. Aleha is involved in several different community-oriented initiatives such as UBC’s Small Business Accelerator which provides free business info to the public, and is on the Steering committee of the Making Research Accessible Initiative and is project lead of the DTES Research Access portal, and is a co-investigator on a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, the STOREE (Supporting Transparent and Open Research Engagement and Exchange) project.

Since 2017 the Community Scholars Program has connected researchers in BC-based non-profit organizations with access to published academic research together with supporting library services. In 2021, Community Scholars Librarians undertook work on a Theory of Change, reflecting on various inputs in order to consider the development of the Program to date, its values, and how it might effectively respond to the evolving needs of participating Community Scholars, even as the program matures into sustainability, and attracts new supporting organizations.
