Heather De Forest has been the Community Scholars Librarian at SFU Library since the program’s inception. She spends part of her work week at 312 Main, a coworking community where various SFU units are collocated with social purpose organizations. Heather serves on the steering committee of the Making Research Accessible initiative and is a co-investigator on the STOREE (Supporting Transparent and Open Research Engagement and Exchange) project.

Since 2017 the Community Scholars Program has connected researchers in BC-based non-profit organizations with access to published academic research together with supporting library services. In 2021, Community Scholars Librarians undertook work on a Theory of Change, reflecting on various inputs in order to consider the development of the Program to date, its values, and how it might effectively respond to the evolving needs of participating Community Scholars, even as the program matures into sustainability, and attracts new supporting organizations.
