Unlocking Research Potential: Advancing Open Science in Eight Steps
In the pursuit of promoting transparency, collaboration, and accessibility of research outputs that benefit science and society, the integration of open science practices is paramount, and institutions play a key role. This presentation delves into the eight strategic recommendations for advancing open science at the University of Ottawa (uOttawa), developed by the uOttawa Open Science Working Group (OSWG).
Open science encompasses a range of practices aimed at making research processes and outputs universally accessible, inclusive and equitable. At uOttawa, these practices are not only a means to enhance research quality and reproducibility but also a pathway to democratize knowledge and bridge linguistic divides.
This presentation will outline key recommendations tailored to the bilingual context of uOttawa, which fall under four pillars of fostering a culture of open science, valuing open practices, promoting and investing in open infrastructure, and the strategic implementation through institutional policies and plans. These recommendations require using existing resources and infrastructure, while investing in new ones. Each recommendation includes sample actions for implementation, informed by evidence drawn from activities at universities across Canada and in other countries and bibliometric analyses of uOttawa’s own publication trends.
This presentation provides insights for other institutions into uOttawa’s approach to fostering the dialogue and advancing the conversation about the important role of institutions to advancing open science.
