Background
The Springer agreement was originally negotiated by the CNSLP Negotiations Resource Team in 2000 following an RFP bid as a result of the CFI grant awarded to CNSLP.
The first agreement with Springer was a 3-year agreement with 0% increases and included all titles in the Springer-Verlag LINK portfolio.
Takeovers and New Starts
Takeover titles and new starts were added in the 2013 license at an additional cost whereas the previous license granted temporary access to new title launches by Springer during the previous license term. There was a one-time cost of adding the titles to the license. All other takeovers and new titles going forward were at an additional cost.
- between a 2.5x and 5x times multiplier
The cost of the takeovers and new starts was distributed by banding on the 2016-18, 2019 and 2020-2021 licenses.
The cost of takeovers and new starts was removed in the 2022-2024 license and now those titles are included in the license at no cost.
Adis
Springer acquired the 20 Adis journals in 2013, formerly published by Wolters Kluwer. These titles are offered as an optional add-on. CRKN members who had a subscription will be offered “grandfathered” pricing. CRKN members who wish to add those titles can subscribe at the Springer pricing.
Nature and Palgrave
In 2016, CRKN considered adding the Nature and Palgrave content. The license for Nature and Palgrave is currently held at the regional level and there was some appetite to bring it to the national level. Following an evaluation, it was determined that it would be too costly to bring to the national level.
